Langtang Gosaikunda Trek

The Langtang Gosaikunda trek is the perfect amalgamation of one of the easiest and most beautiful treks in Nepal, with a final stretch that takes hikers along the scenic Gosaikunda trail.

The Langtang region has long been one of Nepal’s most popular destinations on the trekking map, until the 2015 earthquake dealt a terrible blow, and it took until recently to recover, although visitor numbers remain low to that of previous years. down. Thus, not only are the scenic charms of the past preserved, but the decision to trek through the valley also helps economically restore the lives of the friendly Tamang people who inhabit the area.

As an alternative to teahouse trekking to Annapurna and Everest, the Langtang Gosaikunda Trek is an excellent option, complementing the forested plains, alpine pastures and herds of yaks of Kyanjin Gompa in the Langtang Valley with the sacred jewel of the Gosaikunda Lake and the Helambu Sherpa Grasslands.

From Kathmandu, normal access is via the Trisuli River to Syabrubesi, the starting point of the trek.

The road winds through dense rhododendron forest on both sides of the river until it leaves the tree line and heads through alpine regions, over a glacial moraine and to the reconstructed village of Langtang. Farther and higher in the inner valley sanctuary are yak pastures and the dramatic backdrop of Kyanjin Gompa, a remote monastery famous for making yak cheese. Optional climbs to Kyanjin Ri or Cherko Ri offer panoramic views of nearby mountains, including Langtang Lirung, which rises above the valley at an altitude of 7,234 meters.

Returning to the starting point, the road from Gosaikunda heads southeast, climbing steadily through terraced fields to picturesque highlands, offering sweeping views of distant peaks such as Mount Manaslu (8,163m) and the Tibetan Plateau to the north. The trail then continues to Gosaikunda and the sacred Gosaikunda Lake, a tranquil mountain valley that enhances the magical view of distant Himalayan peaks. In August, the area becomes a major pilgrimage site for Hindus who flock to the area on Janai Purnima to pay their respects at a location believed to be Shiva’s temporary residence.

The Langtang Valley with Gosaikunda trek finally culminates with the ascent of the Laurabina La pass (4610m) and the nearby outpost of Thadepati with its spectacular views to the east, including the sunrise that awaits those who will spend the night there. . The last section includes the road to Chisapani and Sundarijal, which is a satisfying end to the journey.
