Manaslu Region

Next slide
The Manaslu region is located in the western part of Nepal and is part of the Gandaki Zone. It is bordered by Tibet to the north and the Annapurna region to the west. The region is home to Manaslu 8,156 meters (26,759 feet), the 8th highest mountain in the world, as well as other peaks such as Himlung Himal and Cheo Himal.

The region is also home to the famous Manaslu Conservation Area (Established: 1998, Area: 1663 km2), which is a protected area for flora and fauna. It is home to a diverse range of cultures and ethnicities, including Gurung, Tamang, and Bhotia. The region is also home to a wide variety of wildlife, including the snow leopard, the red panda, and the Himalayan black bear. The region is known for its spectacular scenery, including dramatic mountains, lush forests, and wild rivers.

There are also numerous trekking routes in the region, including the popular Manaslu Circuit Trek, which takes trekkers through some of the most remote and beautiful areas in Nepal.

The Major Highlights of Manaslu Circuit Trek

1. Mountain drive from Kathmandu to Arughat and Beshisahar to Kathmandu
2. A great deal of insights of Tibetan and Nepalese people
3. Exotic Budhi Gandaki River valley
4. Fabulous views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Himchuli, Mt. Ganesh, and others
5. Larkya La pass (5153m/16901ft) crossing, one of the highest passes in the world
6. Tibetan culture of Nuri people bordering to Tibet and Nepal
7. Unspoiled nature and culture

Manaslu is Nepal’s eighth tallest peak, located in the Mansiri Himal and the west-central region of the country. The Manaslu Conservation Area stretches from the sub-tropical Himalayan foothills to the barren Trans-Himalayan high pastures bordering Tibet.

Himalchuli (7 893 m), Ngadi Chuli (7 871 m), Shringi (7 187 m), Langpo (6 668) and Saula (6 668) are some of the other notable peaks in the area (6 235 m).

Gorkha district is home to the Tsum holy valley, a pristine Himalayan pilgrimage.

The area stretches from Arughat to the Larkhe La pass and is divided into six climate zones, resulting in diverse flora and fauna.

Unlike many other parts of the world, this valley is home to various critically endangered creatures, such as Snow Leopards and Pandas. Lynx, Himalayan Black Bear, Grey Wolf, Dhole, Assamese Monkey, Himalayan Musk Deer, Blue Sheep, Himalayan Tahr, Mainland Serow, Himalayan Goral, Wooly Hare, Horseshoe Bat, Himalayan House Hare, and Black Lipped Pika are among the other mammals found in the Himalayan region.

The existence of 19 different types of woods and other types of dominating vegetation has been documented in the area.

Gurkhas from the Gurung ethnic group are well-known for their gallantry in military conflicts worldwide.

Closer to Tibet, the Bhutias (sometimes spelt Bhotias), a Tibetan ethnic group related to the Sherpas, dominate the scene, as seen by their flat-roofed dwellings, and they are devout Buddhists.

Because it is more challenging and the trail is steep, the Manaslu region is significantly less busy than the Annapurna. This trek’s highest point is the Larkya La pass (5240m), which necessitates adequate acclimatization.

A Restricted Area Permit is required for the hike (fee per week). In December 1998, the Manaslu Conservation Area was established.
